Everything you want to know
Is Refil free?
Yes. Downloading and using Refil is free: you see the map with the cheapest station for your fuel at no cost. Refil Pro is an optional subscription that widens the search radius and unlocks extras.
How does Refil find the cheapest station?
It uses each country's official price source (the Fuel Finder open data from DESNZ in the United Kingdom, MITECO in Spain, data.gouv in France, Tankerkönig in Germany, MIMIT in Italy, DGEG in Portugal, E-Control in Austria, goriva.si in Slovenia, the chains' own real-time feeds in Denmark and the Secretaría de Energía in Argentina) and highlights the cheapest station for your fuel in green. Switzerland is the exception: it publishes no official prices, so there they come from the community.
Which countries does it cover?
Fuel prices cover 15 countries: the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Denmark, Argentina, Australia, Chile, Mexico and Türkiye. In the United States, Refil shows petrol stations with prices reported by drivers (per gallon) and EV chargers — 16 countries in total. More countries are coming soon.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Refil works with no sign-up or account. We use your location to find stations near you; we never sell it or use it for ads.
Does it work for electric cars too?
Yes. It shows chargers in all 16 countries, with filters by connector (CCS, Type 2, CHAdeMO, NACS…) and charging speed, and even real-time operational status in France.
Does it work on Apple Watch?
Yes. Refil has a watch app with the cheapest price and a watch-face complication. The watch's Radar queries from its own location, so you don't need to pull out your phone — though the watch does need to be paired with an iPhone that has Refil installed.
Why does it ask for “Always” location?
You don't have to: with “While Using” Refil works in full. “Always” lets your iPhone detect, on the device itself, that you filled up at one of your saved stations and ask whether to log it. With “Always”, the app can also update your approximate location (rounded to about 1 km) in the background for nearby price alerts.
How does Refil know prices are about to rise?
It checks the official daily prices against the cost of crude oil and refining. Every alert is checked afterwards against the national average, and hits and misses are both published in the track record.
What does it add over Google Maps or Waze?
Prices from each country's official source, the cheapest station for your fuel and your discounts, and a warning before a price rise. No ads.
